What are the possible benefits of taking part?
Section titled “What are the possible benefits of taking part?”Some benefits for you may include: an increased knowledge about LGBTIQA+ histories; an opportunity to connect with others through talking about LGBTIQA+ histories; and an increased capacity to draw connections between your own experiences as an LGBTIQA+ person and longer histories of LGBTIQA+ life.
Benefits to the wider community may include: increased awareness of the potential significance of LGBTIQA+ histories in young LGBTIQA+ people’s lives, and how LGBTIQA+ young people’s connections to such histories can promote belonging and counter alienation.
What are the possible risks and disadvantages of taking part?
Section titled “What are the possible risks and disadvantages of taking part?”The workshops and individual interviews are designed as safer, confidential environments to promote positive engagements with LGBTIQA+ histories, and issues connected to belonging. However, because of the complexity inherent in these histories and issues there is the possibility that discussions may cause distress. In the unlikely event that you were to become distressed during a workshop or interview we have measures in place to check in with you and support you, including giving you the opportunity to take time out, discontinue and resume, or withdraw from the study (as per the project’s distress protocol).
